itSMF konferansen 2011 omtalt i "At Your Service"
What an Event!
After the artile in the December edition of “At Your Service” where itSMF Norway gave some pointers on how to host a great conference, I was keen to get to Oslo and take a look for myself.
My opportunity came after attending the international publications meeting in Europe the week prior to the Norwegian conference…and I was not disappointed.
So, what makes the Norwegian conference so successful. How does a country of only 4.8 million people hold one of the largest itSMF conferences globally? Why do people come back year after year?
I think it is just the whole conference experience. Being a fairly isolated venue without outside distractions forces the participants to immerse themselves in the event..no sneaking out to buy souvenirs, take photos of local highlights or many of the other things that can often be fitted in another conference.
But that is just a small part of it. ItSMF Norway really knows how to make a conference fun, and that started straight away with the Volkswagen Fun Theory keynote, followed by the Disney Institute bringing us a little bit of Disney Magic.
The musical theme “Heal the World” carried well through the conference, with the music of Michael Jackson featuring at many different stages of the event and coming to the fore at the Tuesday night dinner and entertainment.
The quality of presentations from local and international speakers is very high, with streams in English and in Norwegian. Take a look at some conference highlights here.
If you have to choose just one conference to go to in 2012 then next year`s “Simply the best” event in Oslo has to make it on the short list!
